Transforming Lives: The Impact of Tech Education on Survivors
At the heart of every successful woman in tech is a story of resilience, courage, and the determination to overcome adversity. Amina Njeri, a beneficiary of our empowerment program, shares her inspiring journey from a survivor of gender-based violence to a tech educator and advocate for other women.
From Survivor to Leader
Amina's story is a testament to the power of education and community support. "When I joined the rescue center, I was broken, both physically and emotionally," Amina recalls. "But the holistic support I received, especially in education and skills training, gave me a new lease on life."
Through our partnership with local rescue centers, Amina learned not only how to code but also how to heal and rebuild her life. "Technology became my escape and my empowerment. It opened doors I never knew existed," she says.
Empowering Others
Today, Amina is not just a survivor; she's a leader and an inspiration to many. She runs workshops for young girls in her community, teaching them the same tech skills that changed her life.
"I want to give these girls the tools to build their own futures. I tell them, 'If I can do it, so can you. Your past does not define your future.'"
The Role of Technology in Healing
Technology played a crucial role in Amina's healing process. It provided her with:
- A Creative Outlet: "Through coding, I found a way to express myself and process my experiences."
- A Sense of Purpose: "Building projects that could help others gave my life new meaning."
- Financial Independence: "For the first time, I could support myself and not depend on anyone else."
Continuing the Mission
Amina's journey is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at GirlCode Movement. We're not just teaching tech skills; we're transforming lives.
As Amina aptly puts it, "GirlCode didn't just change my life; it saved my life. And now, I'm on a mission to save others."
